Who we are

Our website address is: http://stopthebess.com.

We respect your privacy and comply with the Data Protection Act 2018. You are welcome to access our site without disclosing your personal data.

Below is some information about how we use any of your personal information. This policy does not cover any links to third party sites.

What info do we collect?

If you contact us through our website, we may keep a record of any email correspondence. We may also ask you for information if you report a problem with this website.

This is a passive website, so as you don’t log in, edit or upload pictures, etc we do not collect or keep user data.

We do not track users and as we don’t sell anything, we don’t collect or use personal info.

We may collect non-personal information such as browsing data to help us to monitor and improve the performance of our website and other online tools.

We will only hold your correspondence information for as long as necessary. All officers who have any access to your personal data are obliged to respect the confidentiality of this information.

Please note that any information you may post on the contact page may be viewed by anyone visiting our site. Do not post any information about yourself that you would not be happy for random visitors to see.

Cookies

Our site uses cookies. A cookie is a small text marker stored on your computer that enables us to track the use of our website. We may use this browsing data to help us to monitor and improve the performance of our website and other online tools.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Sharing data

We do not share or sell any information on this site to other organisations or individuals unless we are required to by law e.g. to the police if we agree it is essential to the prevention or detection of a crime.

If you support us by donating money, we have to keep records of this in our accounts for 7 years.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your email address will be held on this site only as long as it is needed for the purpose we were collecting and using it for and then we dispose of it securely.

Your rights

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

If, at any time, you want to see what information we hold on you, receive a portable copy of it, ask for corrections to be made or ask us to stop using your information in any way, then please do contact us and we’ll do our best to respect your wishes.

Just email our team by using the email contact button. Before we can respond to your request we require proof of identification e.g. a copy of a valid passport or a valid UK driving licence – just to make sure it’s really you.  Once we have received this along with full details of your request we aim to respond as soon as possible in a maximum of 40 days (as permitted by the law).

How we use your information

If we start a crowdfund or other fundraising activity in future and you donate money to a campaign, we will collect, hold and use your information to help you undertake that action. This may mean contacting you with information about the action. We do so to ensure you have the best experience possible, we fulfil our agreed commitment to you and the aim of the action is achieved.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If we are using your personal information on the basis of your agreement – IE replying to an email – then at any time you can withdraw your consent, by telephone, email or letter, and we will not carry out any further processing on that basis.

If you are unhappy with how we are processing your information then you can contact us as outlined above. If you are still unhappy after receiving our response, you can raise your concern to the Information Commissioner’s Office for them to investigate.

This page was last updated in Sept 2025. If our use of your personal data changes, we will place an updated version on this page.
